AIR RIFLE HUNTING

At Hounslow Safaris we are the first and only company in South Africa to cater for the new and growing sport of large calibre air rifle hunting.

Being the only safari company in South Africa to be evaluated by the leading officials in the East Cape Game Management Association and by the Deputy Chief of Environment Affairs and Tourism in the Eastern Cape, we have been given a permit which allows us to hunt with clients and their highly specialized air rifles.

These rifles have done very well on game and we have shot 7 species including Kudu, Warthog, Impala, Duiker, Steenbuck and Bushbuck successfully with clients.

Most of the rifles are of .457 calibre and .50 calibre and fire bullets ranging from 310 - 510 grn. Penetration is excellent with these slow heavy bullets. Most of our hunting with these rifles is done at between 30 yards and 75 yards, as this is the distance that these rifles were designed for.

we have found air rifle hunting to be a very challenging and yet extremely rewarding facet of hunting. It is a mix between the traditional skill of marksmanship, knowledge of trajectories, and the skill of stalking which is associated with bow hunting.
